Tooth Decay

Tooth decay, or cavities, can be caused by eating too many carbohydrate-rich foods, including candy, cookies, soda, and juices. These foods will leave deposits on a person’s teeth. These deposits will then bond with the bacteria in the mouth to form plaque. The combination of both deposits and plaque will create acids that eat away at the tooth enamel, causing tooth decay.

Sensitive Teeth

Your teeth will expand and contract when they react to changes in temperature, which is why a person with sensitive teeth will feel pain when consuming hot or cold foods and beverages. Tooth sensitivity can occur because of receding gums, worn down tooth enamel, or teeth developing microscopic cracks. In some of these situations, simply breathing in cold air can even be painful.

Gum Disease

In the early stage of gum disease, known as gingivitis, gums can bleed easily and may also become red or swollen. When a person has advanced gum disease, or periodontitis, it can cause inflammation, bone damage, or even tooth loss. Thankfully, gum disease is preventable and can generally be avoided with daily brushing and flossing.

Bad Breath

Bad breath, or halitosis, is frequently caused by having food particles left over in the mouth. These particles deteriorate inside the mouth, ending up causing bad breath. To prevent the buildup of food particles, bacteria, and plaque inside your mouth, we recommend brushing and flossing daily.

Canker Sores

Canker sores, also known as aphthous ulcers, are small, recurring sores that are found inside the mouth. These sores typically have a white or gray base that’s surrounded by a red border. These often last for about one or two weeks, though this length can be reduced with the use of topical agents or antimicrobial mouthwashes.

Orthodontic Problems

If you have a bite that doesn’t meet properly, you likely have an orthodontic problem (or malocclusion). These can be inherited and in some cases, they may even be acquired. Some common orthodontic problems include missing teeth, crowded teeth, misaligned jaws, dental injuries or trauma, and developmental issues.
